I wrote this on PD@Beacon: http://blog.beaconpri.sg/pd/2012/01/22/where-change-is-constant/

Writing about the demise or pending demise of tech companies on Chinese New Year Eve is nothing auspicious. Yet, it is these stories, close enough to us, that will probably one, wake us up (if we are in self-delusion about the future) and two, strengthen our resolve to progress and change (where and when change is necessary).

The dying Kodak Moment

The 131-years old company is filing for bankruptcy. It used to be the rock solid standard in Photography and a household name that everyone knows. From posing for shots, to taking pictures for school events and then developing Kodak films in a real darkroom, I had much to do with the then good imaging technologies of Kodak. I remembered the time when there were constant debates on traditional versus digital photography.

Cost was one of the points. We had a Sony Digital Mavica Digital Camera (for the record, it does not look like any of the small, pocket-sized Point & Shoot we have now) which was bulky, and there were much issues as well. We had to insert a 3.5inch floppy disk for photos storage.

Taking photos at school events means, I had to carry a pouch of floppy disks along. The only plus point back then was hey, we can delete shots that are not well taken, not wasting films (which could only hold 35 shots per roll). Yet this plus point is easily refuted then, by the very cost of the Digital Camera. The digital camera was not easily affordable. The common myopic view was that, unless you are a full time photographer, constantly taking photographs and expending films / over spending on developing unnecessary shots, a digital camera seems overpriced. What many failed to consider was the cost over time. Kodak did not feel the need to change its cameras strategy. Kodak believes that selling digital cameras to a few power users is nowhere as profitable as selling many one-time-use film cameras to the masses. Of course, apart from this, Kodak was not ready for the change.

Why fix something that is not broken? Why venture into an unknown realm? Why put stability at risk?

Things, however change, to the epic disadvantage of Kodak, and, from a 4.5 million sale figure in 2000, close to 30 million digital cameras were sold in 2007. By that time, Kodak will have major grounds to cover in order to attempt the impossible feat of catch up with already established digital camera brands such as Sony & Canon.

On hindsight, it is easy for anyone to say, Kodak was late to the party and sure enough, Kodak did not stay afloat in the catch-up game with its competitors. That, however, is pretty much the result from a few decades of decisions. What brought forth the decisions then?

I could think of a few: fear of change and unwillingness to move out of their comfort zones. In truth, no one knows exactly what the future holds, and how the world of the future is like. If we choose to live like a hermit, adopting familiar methods and our old ways, will there be any future? Is the future about reliving what the past has been and how people of today lived?

Tried, tested and proven, sure. For sure, if we use the tried, tested and proven methods, one element that we will not be too far away from, is stability. But from the demise of Kodak, what can one say about today’s world (which was the past’s future)?

That the world is merciless and unforgiving, especially to those who wish to stay on in their own comfort zones. And stability is a concept only applicable to a stagnant, immobile world, not the real world. Stability then, is a passing phase.

For us educators, it is evident that, education has changed, especially our students, and education has to be able to meet the changing demands of the unknown future.

Enter Nokia

My first phone was Nokia 3210, then Nokia 3310. Nokia was everywhere and definitely a dominant player in the market. After A’Levels, I had Nokia 6280 slider (3G) and that was a sleek phone back then, with even a front-facing camera for video calls. It was evident though, despite the ooohs and ahhhs about Nokia’s innovative phones, that Nokia’s build quality has steadily declined. I had to visit the service center twice a month.

As Nokia’s quality decline, its sales decline as well. Nokia however, kept to its formula of constantly pushing out new handsets with new features. Quality control was disastrous, with the outsourcing of labour to 3rd world countries.

Handsets were introduced, for the mere sake of new handsets and on the thought of, new handsets is equivalent to new sales figures. This is a common strategy that many companies adopt readily: new products will bring in new income. Why put all eggs into an existing basket which may be gone over time?

Putting this into education perspective, should new strategies and tools be introduced for the mere sake of introduction? Should technologies be used for the sake of using technologies? We might attract students’ attention, but it is just as short-lived as how new products bring in new incomes. There might even be an apparent lack of quality if our focus is wrongly placed on introducing new strategies and new tools, disregarding what our students need and our lesson contents.

Strategies, tools and technologies should only be used, as a tool to facilitate and help improve the quality of learning, not as a tool to impress. Just as how phones are, new phones should better enhance the lives of users and not just be an option.

And Apple did just that. The iPhone. Steve Jobs was more than right to say that, consumers do not know what they want, nor do they know, what they need.

For many who know me, they would say, I am no advocate of Apple’s products, in actuality, I own 0 Apple products. Yet I have to say, it is indeed Apple that changes how people communicates and how the smartphone integrates seamlessly into our life, bringing light to the mobile technology landscape.

And I do not have to repeat about how merciless the world is, towards companies who chooses to stay in their comfort zones. Nokia phones (smartphones) which were based on the Symbian platform / Meego, slowly loses ground in the initial phase and was doomed to exit when a giant player in the form of the Open Handset Alliance, led by Google, came into the scene with Android, an open alternative to Apple’s iOS.

Nokia is predicted to fade into history in 2012. Its presence in today’s mobile world is modest when compared to that of Apple, HTC, Samsung and Google-Motorola.

Conclusion
To conclude, in today’s changing world, change is a constant.

Saying “…but we didn’t use to do this/have this” will only impede progress and it might not even be us bearing the brunt of our refusal to learn/relearn/move out of our comfort zones. However, change/innovation should only be applied when and where necessary. Changes or new introductions should be of a beneficial nature and be at an angle to change lives for the better. Putting this in education’s perspective, if we choose to teach as per how we were taught in the 1990s and early 2000s, are we preparing our students for the future or are we falsely hoping that their future can be a looped video of our past?

“…but we didn’t use to do this/have this” will be so commonly uttered tomorrow and tomorrows of tomorrow. The future is unknown, our preparations should be much more than “i+1″. Students might be learning at “i+1″, but for us teachers, we need to be able to give much more than “i+1″.

Michelle Soh’s “Schubert’s Impromptu Op 90 No 2″

Spruce Teo’s “If I ain’t got you” —— Spruce 的 saxophone 表演，可谓让人惊叹。

Giam Yue Ling’s Beethoven Virus

Tabitha Nauser、Michelle Soh、Giam Yue Ling 诠释 “Someone Like You”

友人 Jerome 盛情邀请，让我能携同友人 艺欣，到博物馆观赏 “Dreams and Reality: Masterpieces of Painting, Drawing and Photography from the Musée d’Orsay, Paris” 画展。

From the collection of the world renowned Musée d’Orsay, over 140 Salon, Realists, Impressionists and Post-Impressionists paintings, photographs and drawings from the mid-19th century to the early 20th century will specially tour to Singapore this year. Titled Dreams and Reality: Masterpieces of Painting, Drawing and Photography from the Musée d’Orsay, Paris, the exhibition explores the reaction of man towards modernity at the turn of the century from 1848 to 1912. The changing social and industrial landscapes of Paris in early modernity forced artists and photographers to rethink their approach to the visual world around them. Their varied responses generated new ways of depicting reality and a proliferation of styles.

Highlights of the exhibition include Paul Cézanne’s The Card Players, Vincent van Gogh’s Starry Night and Alexandre Cabanel’s The Birth of Venus. Many other key works by forerunners of modern art such as Gustave Courbet, Edgar Degas, Jean-François Millet as well as female Impressionists Berthe Morisot, Marie Bracquemond and Eva Gonzalès will also be showcased. A portrait of Georges Clemenceau by Édouard Manet will travel exclusively to Singapore.

Thanks once again to omy.sg that I’m able to watch this movie way a…

Thanks once again to omy.sg that I’m able to watch this movie way ahead of its opening. Despite the waves of negative critics around this movie, I’m going to go in the opposite direction and say, this is undoubtedly, one of the best movies that I’ve watched in recent few years.

(And, that is definitely not a case of bad taste or poor critical mind.)

First, let me begin with an overview of the movie.

Immortals is a 2011 3D fantasy action film directed by Tarsem Singh and starring Henry Cavill, Freida Pinto, and Mickey Rourke. The film also stars Luke Evans, Kellan Lutz, Joseph Morgan, Stephen Dorff, Alan Van Sprang, Isabel Lucas, and John Hurt.

Notice that I’ve highlighted the word “fantasy”? Many walked in, with the mindset to find a movie closely knitted / linked to Greek Mythology and mourns over how presumably weak the link is. This is fantasy, not a remake of a historical legend.

Where it fails for many in terms of the link to Greek Mythology, the story and the plot works for me. And definitely, kudos to the brilliantly planned out screenplay, plot and seamless transitions of scenes.

Brief Synopsis

The Heraklion King of Crete, Hyperion (Mickey Rourke), declares war on Olympus after the Gods fail to answer his prayers to save his family from illness, and starts searching for the Epirus Bow, a powerful weapon created by the God of War Ares (Daniel Sharman), which he intends to use to release the Titans from Mount Tartarus and destroy the gods. Hyperion conquered all places along his path, until, he reaches the nearby village where Theseus lives with his Mother. Theseus and his mother were considered peasants because, Theseus was born out of wedlock.

When Hyperion reached the village, he massacred the village and strong as Theseus is, he could not stop Hyperion there and then. He could only watched on helplessly, when Hyperion killed his mother in front of his own eyes.

From that point in time, Theseus vowed for revenge, revenge for his mother. But as the plot progresses, revenge was merely the firestarter. It was for mankind that Theseus persisted on and eventually fought for. He was joined by Phaedra and Stavros, who fought hand in hand with him.

As for the Gods and Zeus’ refusal to intervene with godly powers until the Titans are released, in all truth, it feels like a joke. The Epirus Bow would not have fallen into Hyperion’s hands, and the Titans could have been sealed in Mount Tartarus if there were intervention, but as per how life should go, strength should come from within and not from above.

I would suppose, a war began by Man should be resolved by Man. Perhaps, godly influence or intervention would make fair competition unfair. Maybe, sustainable strength has to come from mankind themselves. Sustainable strength that enabled lives to flourish and sustain all these millenniums. Perhaps.

Review
There is, much action, blood and gore, and definitely tears to shed. And watching it in 3D, is simply breathtaking. The immersive and into the movie experience, because of the impressive 3D setup (film and cinema likely), literally sets you in a close up position of a bystander IN the movie and nothing less.

It has been a long time since I last breathe every breath with every scene of the movie, definitely longer since I felt so shaken by any movies.

The message is, “Fight!”, fight on for your beliefs, fight for who you love and who you care for. Which is in essence, the spirit to fight and the only right reason to fight. To fight to protect what means the most to you.

There is much more for you to watch and to explore in this movie. By “explore”, I mean, to rediscover what life truly holds and means for anyone.

Why are we fighting? What’s there to fight for?

Future. Immortality (in spirit, not in flesh). Life is meant to be lived, to be of meaning.

日前和友人一同观赏电影 What’s Your Number。 …

日前和友人一同观赏电影 What’s Your Number。

There is a time to cut loose, 看 Footloose 吧。

Can you imagine conquering the Universal Studios Singapore with sight impaired? For a “bat” like me, with sight over 500 degrees per eye, it is simply unimaginable.

And for me, who is pretty much “blind” at night or in darkness, without a pair of good lenses, the entire experience would have been disastrous to say the least.

Because of Crizal, I’m able to explore the Ancient Egypt Themed section, enjoy adventures in “Revenge of The Mummy”, which is a high speed coaster ride that puts me through the trials of water sprinkles, warm/high heat at high + neck-breaking speed.

That Mummy did not daunt me. Because I’m wearing Crizal. That isn’t just a line to promote Crizal, but the very fact that, the water sprinkles/droplets didn’t stay on my lenses, warm heat didn’t give me any patches of blurness/fog, and my frantic fingers didn’t leave any smudge marks on my lenses, what more can you ask for?

Watch me go!

Yes I survived the ride and even took a picture with the lady mascot adorned in Mummy suit to stake my survival claim!

Past the ride of trials, “Revenge of The Mummy”, which by the way, was considered as warm-up ride, it is time for BattleStar, the star ride of Universal Studios of Singapore. BattleStar?! Oh my, thought I would have gone on the more humane version “Human”, but it was closed for maintenance and there I went on, for “Cylon”.

I was speeding along rough tracks, turned upside down 360 degrees and there was even water sprinkles along the way. Did Crizal lenses made me invincible to go through this above human capacity ride? Well, no. I’m a mere mortal, “Cylon” isn’t quite a ride that I would go on for a 2nd time, considering that I got off it dizzy with jelly legs and could barely walk down the stairs. For consolation, I have to say, I had an extremely clear vision of the entire ride. Wind can sweep past my spectacles, water sprinkles and fog along the ride didn’t stay on my spectacles.

Well, for a once and definitely once-only ride in this lifetime, Crizal gave me crystal clear experience throughout the ride. My Crizal lenses too remained clean, without any smudges, from my sweaty palms – I broke out in cold sweat whilst gripping tightly to the handles for my dear life in the process of and 1 minute 20 seconds.

Next up, “I like to move it move it!” – To the Madagascar themed section of USS! Queues were all long, and we went on Merry Go Around – nothing special, but we relive our childhood memories.

The zebra which I was on, requested me to put the stylish Crizal spectacles on its head.

Through a pair of good eyes, we relive childhood memories, where things were simple and clear. No worries of the adult world. Yet, growing up is a must and with my sharp vision, well bestowed by Crizal lenses, blocking away water(tears) sprinkles, dust, preventing smudges and glares, enable me to see the world better and face the challenges!

And into Madagascar A Crate Adventure (relaxing) ride I go!

(My face is grim, how would I know what’s to happen? I wouldn’t want my spectacles to be wet. Even though I know droplets fall faster than I can say “fall”. I wouldn’t want smudges, from me wiping any remaining droplets either!)

My worries were uncalled for. It was a mild ride, with some bits of water sprinkles, which was no issue for my Crizal adorned eyes. Not quite what I expected, but nice and relaxing!

That sums up my adventures at USS (with the big group of cool Crizal ambassadors) ! There were alot more worlds to go through, but neccessity begets immediacy, which means, I’m hungry.

We had lunch at Goldilocks and yes, no smudges even when my oil stained fingers after the tasty Tom Yam Spicy Chicken pieces touched it.

This was my experience, conquering uss with Crizal! Thank you Crizal!

Mission done! With Crizal, life is in the clear, so crystal clear

I always believe that there is a stark difference between “filli…

I always believe that there is a stark difference between “filling up your stomach” and “enjoying your meal” — The difference like that between an artwork and a placeholder / empty vessel.

Given the chance to FEAST and I mean FEAST on the finest, famous and simply delectable delicacies that Far East Square can offer, what more can you ask for? Thank you OMY!

In Gastromania Feast @ Far East, we made 8 stops and enjoyed over 20 delicacies (main course, drinks and desserts)!

Are you ready to “feast” with your eyes? Let’s go.

1. Zhou’s Kitchen 周庄

http://www.zhouskitchen.com/

Zhou’s Kitchen is a casual Chinese dining concept, catering to the palates and pockets of diners from all walks of life. 周 (Zhou) is the family name of Andrew Tjioe, TungLok Group’s founder and Executive Chairman, and Zhou’s Kitchen as the name suggests, offers all-time Chinese favourites, as well as well-loved private recipes of the Zhou family. Definitely the place for the discerning and time-starved local diners.

I’ve been a longtime fan of Zhou’s Kitchen High Tea Buffet and it is definitely a good and affordable place to check out for casual fine dining – good ambience and good food at good prices.

We tried the Pork shank with fried/steam buns. I’m never a fan of Pork shank because of the fatty skin and oily-ness, but Zhou’s Kitchen does an amazing job cooking it — if ever I’m to have pork shank, it has to come from Zhou’s Kitchen and no others.

(The restaurant manager cut it open for us.)

Well adorned and accompanied by fresh veggies and pickles, the pork shank dish is in a class of its own. It is well flavoured and the meat is tender, and it melts in the mouth.

How about going with buns?

I tried both types of buns, whilst the steamed bun has a nice texture and taste to it, I prefer the crunchier skin and sweeter taste of the fried buns.

Needless to say, I had 2 servings here. It is not that I’m hungry, but simply, the Pork Shank’s is irresistable!

2. Ju Chun Yuan(Spring Garden)

http://www.juchunyuan.com.sg/

Since 1865, “JuChunYuan” has stood for the finest in Fuzhou cuisine. The famous “Buddha Jumps Over the Wall” was birthed in JuChunYuan restaurant in 1876 and has continued to set the standard for fine Chinese restaurants around the world. Now, SPRING JuChunYuan is the only restaurant in Singapore that exclusively serves traditional Min cuisine and carries the remarkable legacy of the original JuChunYuan Fuzhou restaurant.

Next stop, heavenly delicacies!

Ju Chun Yuan’s overall furnishing has a really traditional chinese feel to it and it is on the very site of the first school set up by FuZhou Clan Association.

I have never ever had the chance to taste Buddha Jump Over The Wall 佛跳墙 and I’m that glad that Gastromania Feast provided me with this opportunity of the lifetime!

Special Note: Buddha Jump Over The Wall is first invented/concocted by Ju Chun Yuan back in China in 1876. So what we are tasting today, is none other than the most authentic and original taste of the dish!

We get to peek at the $1288 worth Buddha Jump Over The Wall, looking at the ingredients inside, I suppose, I would jump over the wall anytime as well.

Of course, we did not get the huge $1288 worth vase each, we have each a sampling portion.

Ju Chun Yuan was generous with the sampling portion though, we each get a piece of Abalone, Shark Fin, fine scallop and etc.

The double boiled rich tasting herbal soup and the generous helpings of heavenly delicacies makes this a dish that we could not bring ourselves to finish, yet when we finally finished it, you can be sure that you wouldn’t get a drop of soup or any residue of the delicacies left in our bowls!

Ju Chun Yuan also offered us another specialty. Xing Hwa Bee Hoon.

Looking at the Bee Hoon, you must be wondering to yourself, what is so special about the bee hoon? I could get it anywhere!

Look closer!

The Bee Hoon are finer than the usual Bee Hoon you find anywhere else in Singapore. And with its special red vinegar, it is definitely not a everywhere taste.

With 3 dishes down, time for next stop.

3. Garuda Padang Cuisine

http://www.garudapadang.com/

Garuda, established in 1976, is the most successful and one of the largest Padang Cuisine restaurant chains in Indonesia. Today, in a partnership with TungLok Group, Garuda in Singapore is the only franchised Padang Cuisine restaurant outside Indonesia, offering nothing but the most authentic fare at three locations.

We are to taste the Fried Chicken with Blue Ginger Floss next.

I love fried chicken but what really appeals me about the dish that I’m about to taste, is the Blue Ginger Floss. I am a fan of ginger.

I like this dish, but would definitely prefer to have it with rice and vegetables. It is a little on the salty side, but nonetheless, flavour-ful! Would definitely recommend it to anyone trying out Garuda Padang Cuisine!

Garuda Padang Cuisine has a lot of other dishes as well:

We also had our first iced drink at Garuda, Lime Juice. It is refreshing to the throat.

Now, off to next stop!

4. Shin Kushiya

http://www.shinkushiya.com/

Shin Kushiya was established in October 2006 to introduce the Kushiyaki dining concept. ‘Kushiyaki’ is the Japanese term for ‘Charcoal-grilled skewers’. At Shin Kushiya, the freshest meat, seafood and vegetables are arranged artfully on bamboo skewers and grilled with care over Bincho charcoal from Japan to provide a crisp smokiness while sealing the natural flavours within. Paired with freshly-ground sea salt, cracked black pepper and homemade tare sauce, Kushiyaki is a simple and satisfying pleasure.

We had Yuzu Cooler before our Kushiyakis are served up. I like the taste! Sprangy, sparkling, orangey and refreshing!

We had a chance to see the chef in action as well!

And here comes our Kushiyakis!

We are pampered with 4 types of Kushiyakis – Ebi Shiso Maki, Buta Bara Yaki Miso, Black pepper Yakitori, Tomato Maki.

There are special salts available for us to try with the Kushiyakis. The yellow is curry salt, and the purplish is sour plum salt.

Well, I really love all the sticks of Kushiyaki here, my favourite has to be the Tomato Maki which bursts in your mouth the moment you bite into it. The black pepper yakitori is nice and the freshest of the lot, has to be the Ebi Shiso Maki. I’m not that much of a fan of Buta Bara Yaki Miso, because I do not like 三层肉 to begin with.

As for the salt, I like the curry salt more.

Shin Kushiya too served up my favourite dessert of the day – Kuro Goma Heaven, which is Black Sesame Ice Cream. It is a very different taste from other types of ice-cream, has a nice smooth taste and it is not overly sweet. Not to mention the light fragrance of black sesame. Nice!

Love it!

5. Mont Calzone

http://www.montcalzone.com.sg/

Enjoy hearty Italian cuisine at reasonable prices in this cosy and laid-back pizzeria. Popular dishes include Fried Calamari, Polpa di Granchio (crab meat pasta) and Rucola Mozzarella Pizza. Be sure to leave room for their homemade tiramisu, a scrumptious Italian dessert not to be missed. All pizza selections can be made into calzone.

Mount Calzone is founded by Chef Alvin Toh who came up with his own renditions of fine pizzas and pastas. The most special pasta has to be the Sambal Marinara Pasta – definitely a Singaporean taste!

There are 3 pastas and 3 pizzas for our samplings.

Smoked Salmon Pizza

Rustica Pizza

Sambal Marinara Pasta

Parma Ham with Rucola pasta

Carbonara

My personal favourites have to the Black Truffle pizza, Carbonara and the Sambal Marinara Pasta!

Are you hungry now? Check out Mount Calzone for Pizza and Pasta delights! Whilst you are there, say hi to the friendly chef/boss Alvin!

Next up, Taste of India!

6. Mirchi – Taste of India

Mirchi –Taste of India offers an extensive range of delectable and authentic Northern Indian cuisine, with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes to choose from. Favourite specialties include “Tandoori Non-Vegetarian Kebab Platter” an assortment of fish tikka, chicken tikka, seekh kebab and prawns spiced with tandoori masala. “Kadhai Prawn”, marinated prawns with capsicum in onion & tomato gravy. “Rogan Josh”, a traditional lamb curry, an all time favourite from Kashmir. Also, not to be missed is the selection of chicken, lamb, seafood and vegetable Biryani served with Raita.

We had a good taste of India at Mirchi. It is my first time trying out India Cuisine.

We were given Mango Lassi as drink, flavourful and milky nice!

And a good platter of meat and seafood – my favourite out of the platter, has to be the fish and prawn. The prawn is succulent and fresh. Fish is well marinated with a smooth taste. The lamb is good, but a little too spicy for me.

And with this, we proceed to our last stop of Main Course, before our Dessert Stop for Cupcakes!

7. Hock Lam Beef

http://hocklambeef.com/

Hock Lam Beef has been serving the highest quality Teochew beef kway teow in Singapore. The business spans over 98 years, across 4 generations of the Tan family, and is run today by the original founder’s great-grandchild. Till today, they prepare everything, from the 24-hour boiled gourmet soup with herb base to the homemade 13-ingredient chilli sauce, by hand in-house.

Ask anyone, and they will tell you that Elaine is crazy for beef. From beef kway teow soup to dry beef noodles/kway teow to anything(!) related to beef, Elaine will try.

And I’m so glad that we have one of the most traditional and best beef kway teow fitted into our itinerary. Hock Lam Beef Kway Teow, a century old taste with good herbal soup, handmade kway teow and hand cut beef. It is a taste not to forget, for how could anyone forget the taste of sincerity and their passion for great beef kway teow?

Here comes the bowl of Beef Kway Teow filled with goodness and sincerity.

Despite a full stomach, I finished the entire bowl of soup, kway teow, beef and beef brisket. The soup was flavourful, rich with herbal taste and simply delightful! There is no oil and no msg, it is no wonder why we do not feel a bit thirsty after the soup.

As for the chilli, it is simply “great stuff” – shiok!

We were treated to hand squeezed ice lemon tea as well, to help us in our digestion – How thoughtful!

The tradition and beef noodles has gone on its 4th Generation. We met the 3rd Generation boss and the 4th Generation lady boss. Lets hope this taste of sincerity goes on for another 10 generations!

With that, we are off to our final stop!

8. Oni Cupcakes

http://www.onicupcakes.com/

This boutique cupcake bakery uses only the finest quality ingredients, their top-selling cupcakes include Chocolate Lover (Valrhona dark chocolate), Mango Tango (Valrhona chocolate cake with Mango butter cream), along with specialty cupcakes like Healthy Bunny (carrot cake with cream cheese frosting) and The King (Mao Shan Wang durian). With a wide range of flavours, designs and sizes, their custom-made cupcakes will delight both adults and kids.

I have to admit, I’m not a fan of cakes/bread etc. Especially not after a full stomach. However, Oni Cupcakes really does appeal to me because of its unique tastes. I tried the mandarin orange and mango cupcakes, oni one line to describe them – “Nice and Oni found in Oni Cupcakes”

And that marks the end of our Gastromania Feast @ Far East Square!

It is a pity that we did not get to visit Queen’s Bubble Tea as the Tenant has something on last minute. Oh well, I will be back for it when I revisit Far East Square for good food. In actuality, this food journey is not just about food, I’ve made new friends on this Gastromania Feast excursion!

Once again, thank you OMY!

(Singapore, June 29, 2011) ― ASUS announced the launch of a special edition of the N Series notebook designed by renowned artist and songwriter Jay Chou at a press event in Taipei today. The event opened with a symphony conducted by ASUS Chairman Jonney Shih and an orchestra consisting of notebooks along with piano by Jay Chou. The combination of classical music with digital remix demonstrates the latest breakthrough in ASUS SonicMaster Audio technology.

“Design inspiration has always been a part of ASUS’ DNA, and we’re honored to appoint a talented singer and songwriter like Jay Chou to infuse new elements of design into our N series notebook. But design is not all we have to offer. This special edition of the N series notebook is powered by the latest Intel innovations. I believe this strong partnership will continue to bring more exciting products to our customers”, said Jonney Shih, ASUS Chairman.

“The audio experience delivered by the N3 is truly remarkable and it’s made even better by the stunning visual experience delivered by Intel’s 2nd generation Core processors. The combination of superior sound and sight is what I call an incredible experience”, added Sean Maloney, Chairman of Intel® China.

Unique design inspired by traditional and modern motifs

Jay Chou transformed his passion and devotion for music into innovative notebook design by using music notes, sheet music, piano concepts and other musical icons as inspiration for a truly unique notebook. The combination of modern “J-style” text-wrapping with a classical Chinese blue and white porcelain finish infuses the notebook with strong and diverse Asian aesthetics. “It has been a tremendous pleasure to work with the ASUS Design Center. They were able to translate and transform my musical inspirations onto the N series notebook product design and functionality. Every detail on the N series perfectly portrays my personal taste and multimedia lifestyle,” said Jay Chou.

Intel® Core™ technology for better notebook experiences

ASUS and Intel® have cooperated closely on this campaign, creating all-new branding for N Series notebooks using the 2nd generation Intel® Core™ processors and Sandy Bridge architecture which enhance both graphics and multitasking performance. These portable PCs upgrade graphics and boost flexible multitasking performance while optimizing power consumption for a perfectly balanced and rewarding computing experience.

Setting new standards in notebook audio

Last year, ASUS redefined top-of-the-line audio with N Series notebooks with the development of its exclusive SonicMaster audio technology. Co-developed by a dedicated ASUS team and leading sound experts from Bang & Olufsen ICEpower®, SonicMaster incorporates grand, theater-like acoustics with the constrained physical dimensions of a notebook PC.

ASUS has also worked with Bang & Olufsen ICEpower® on creating the SonicMaster sound certification, which also debuted on N Series notebooks. SonicMaster is now available on all N Series notebooks and presents enhanced audio technology that delivers the clearest treble and most resonant bass on any portable PC. SonicMaster also enables the widest-reaching and most powerful surround effects, creating theater-grade and highly lifelike audio. Combined with exclusive design by Jay Chou, the special edition N Series notebook is a genuine collector’s item
